As the municipal election campaign in Collingwood continues, questions continue to come in. Here's another one from this week, from a member of the local media:

 

Hello candidates:

I have another question for you. We’re doing a story for Truth and Reconciliation day and I was hoping you could answer the following. 100 words max. If you could get your answers by Wednesday at 10 am.

 

 How do you plan to tackle the Truth & Reconciliation Calls to Action, if elected? 

Thanks for the opportunity to re-read the 94 Calls to Action.

We helped as minor hockey changed its logo, which is part of Call 90.

Two other calls apply directly to municipalities; 47: repudiate Doctrine of Discovery, and 57: provide education on Indigenous history to workers.

Training was provided, plus, the Unity Collective re-wrote Collingwood's Land Recognition statement which is said aloud to start every meeting. As Mayor, I will continue to ask members to read it out, not just the Chair, so all of council experiences how moving the statement is. I started that practice in 2020 and do the same as Chair of the Conservation Authority.
